Grupo cultural que crea, enciende y convoca

YAMA is a word that refers to three meanings: that of lighting our fire, that of calling to weave ourselves and that of recognizing ourselves as animals, children of this earth. These are premises that guide the theoretical and practical work of the cultural group.

It is a multidisciplinary and self-managed collective that, since 2016, has been dedicated to stage creation, research and sociocultural management around the themes of the body, gender, resistance and memory.

Yama is a traveling space that conceives art as a meeting point and a link between communities, neighborhoods and collectives from different places in Latin America.

The group believes that collaborative work is what allows us to open paths towards the consolidation of an art committed to the realities and community processes of our people.

The members of the collective come from different countries and disciplines such as performing arts, music, cooking, social sciences, research and visual arts, which makes them a diverse group. Thus, diversity – at all levels – has become the starting point that has marked their work and life philosophy.

NUESTRA SEDE

Despite being characterized by being an itinerant group, the main meeting place is Quinta El Olmito, at the foot of the Ilaló in Tumbaco.

This space has become a symbol of defense and protection of the territory, of anti-extractivist struggle and of gender vindication, always through art.
